Technical Services Specialist - Edmonton, AB

The Technical Services Department at Rutter Hinz Inc. currently has an opening for a Technical Services Specialist. As a member of a cross-functional and diverse team, you will be working across a multitude of industries ranging from oil and gas to food and beverage. You must be able to adapt and change at a very fast pace according to the industry, client and schedule you are working with.

Position:

To provide on-site and in-house support of automation systems on request of the client. This support includes commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of systems that include HMIs, RTUs, PLCs and any other SCADA and networking equipment incorporated in the automation system. This will include traveling to site locally and internationally.

As a liaison between Rutter Hinz and the client, you will be expected to assist the client in determining scope of Technical Services projects, services, and helping them choose the right Service Program for their needs. Once a scope is determined, you may need to assist in preparing accurate estimates for the work to submit to the customer.

You will be expected to help the client evaluate their system and recommend engineering change solutions to their issues as they are presented. You will also be expected to suggest and promote upgrades and Service Programs to the clients' systems. A level of Business Development skills and customer management skills are necessary to be successful.

Projects awarded to Rutter Hinz either in Project Engineering or in Technical Services, the TSS is expected to assist where needed if schedule allows. This allows the Technical Services team to stay abreast of the new technologies Project Engineering may be implementing as well as understanding and identifying caveats to systems that Technical Services may be supporting in the future. With this responsibility the TSS not only is required to be able to configure the system, but is also required to be able to conduct system and component level troubleshooting and testing in FATs and SATs.

Technical Services offers to our clients, service programs to help maintain their automation system. Within this responsibility, the TSS will be providing training to our clients on their automation system. The TSS will be required to prepare training material and documentation on the clients system and conduct formal and informal training courses in house or on-site of the client's system. Also, a degree of learning the customer's automation system and new equipment may be necessary to be able to perform this training. Knowing the clients system, history, and managing scheduled visits to the site for maintenance is also required.

The TSS will be, on occasion, working with various vendors and clients to get the job done where it is on-site or in-house. The vendors or clients can be working together with us to complete a project or services or flex capacity contractors brought in to assist in work load.

The TSS will need to be able to manage these resources in terms of expectations, responsibilities and scope of work in order to complete the project.

The TSS will be on-call based on the On-Call Schedule for Service Program clients whom have purchased the On-Call option. They are required to manage and log the customer's issues when called upon 24 hours per day and 7 days per week on a rotational basis.

The TSS would also be responsible to assist the Technical Services Manager with other duties as required in benefit of the department or the organization.
